Aberavon Green Stars RFC founded 1887.

In October, 2015 I wrote on article on the 50th anniversary of the end of our unbeaten period 1962/65 (based on the carefully maintained match statistics of John Griffiths). That period also saw the opening of our new clubhouse and since then our fortunes have ebbed and flowed. Currently we are at a low point on and off the field owing to an outflow of some senior players and a very long injury list. On a positive note, however, our committee is working hard to effect the conversion of our changing rooms complex to include new clubhouse facilities and last season's youth team have stepped up to the plate and are doing their best to adjust to senior rugby in Division 2.Our clubhouse is in a parlous condition and it is only through the forebearance of the new proprietor, Tommy O'Callaghan, that it remains open for business.

So the club committee, coaching staff, players and supporters are appealing to all former players and supporters to give more support to our team and to our clubhouse. We celebrated the centenary of our rugby club in 1987/88 and we owe a debt of gratitude to all the players, officials and supporters who preceded us - we must not let them down. Come down Little Warren for our home games (and away if possible), come down the clubhouse - your support is essential for the survival of our rugby club. Spread the word !

Bernard Donovan.
