Cwmgors RFC 36 Aberavon Green Stars RFC 19

Injury hit Aberavon Green Stars travelled to Cwmgors today for this Division 2 West Central fixture with a perilously low number of props but put up a good display and were down just 12-9 at half time. They opened the scoring with an early penalty by full back Aaron Davies but after twenty minutes forward pressure by Cwmgors led to their first try by number eight Dylan Hills converted by outside half Stefan Rees. Fifteen minutes later Green Stars were back in the lead after two more penalties by Aaron Davies but just before the interval whistle  the Cwmgors flanker Mathew Vickers got their second try.

Their winger Alex Wilkins dabbed down soon after the restart with another Hills conversion. Aaron Davies then struck his fourth penalty for the visitors before lock John Hill stormed over the line for Cwmgors' bonus point try converted by Stefan Rees. Dylan Hills then crossed for his second try with full back Dan Morgan adding the two points, In the closing stages of the game Conor Condon gave the Green Stars' supporters something to cheer about when he finished off a fine solo effort with a try. Aaron Davies, who had not missed a place kick all game, made no mistake with the conversion.

Next Saturday Aberavon Green Stars play first division club Trebanos at Little Warren in the WRU Bowl competition. With great regret, it will be the final night in the clubhouse which opened in May, 1962 but is now being redeveloped for housing. Live music will start at 5 p.m. and all former players, supporters and family members are very welcome to attend. On a more positive note, plans are in hand to develop clubhouse facilities within the Little Warren changing rooms building alongside the Aberavon Green Stars field.
